Prayer Requests.

Hello again!

We just wanted to give you all an update and let you know how you can be praying for us and our ministry.

A HOME.

Nate and I are beginning the search for a home in Nairobi. We’ve been renting our pastor’s house while he and his family are on furlough, which has been such a blessing and has tremendously eased our transition to Kenya. The family will return in January, so we have about 2 months to find a place.

To offer some perspective, we are hoping to find a nearby place that could be used as a place of ministry. Our church, ICF, does not have a building (we meet at Rosslyn Academy’s auditorium), so it would be nice to have a place where we can host Bible studies and youth activities.

Please pray that we could find something near our budget….with the UN and US Embassy close by, housing is both competitive and expensive. We trust that God will provide exactly what we need! (There is currently a place down the street that has our interest…it’s just a bit outside our budget. Again, trusting God’s provision!)

THE STUDENTS.

With each week, we are getting more and more connected with students in this area. Through youth group, Covenant groups and visiting school campuses, we are learning more about students’ lives and able to speak truth into them.

Pray that more opportunities will come up for us to reach students who attend secular schools in this neighborhood. As a Christian ministry, it is tough for us to get access to some campuses. Our hope is to reach those who need the Gospel so desperately, and create a safe community of student believers to grow in their faith.

REST.

It has been a BUSY last two months. We are learning that, as missionaries, you can be asked to do a variety of things; many of which may not fit exactly into your job description. It has all been wonderful, exciting opportunities! However, we are feeling weary and needing some rest.

Pray that we would have wisdom in how we fill our days, as well as when to say, “no.” We began our first couple of months saying, “yes” to everything in order to meet new people and get acquainted to different ways of ministry. Now, we are realizing we need pull back and prioritize the things we want to accomplish in ministry. We want to serve well, and be diligent to joyfully do the work God has called us to.

DAVE.

We urgently request your prayers for one of our bosses, Dave Preston, and his family. Dave is the Director of Operations for BlueSky ministries. He recently had a severe stroke (on Sunday) and is currently at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He has a long road to recovery, and the doctors’ are not sure what his recovery will look like.

Join us in praying for God to heal his body and to guide the doctors. Also, pray for Tammy (his wife), Wesley (son), Hannah (daughter) and Rick (father) to be comforted and surrounded by God’ perfect peace.

The Prestons are very dear to us. Shanna worked for both Dave and Tammy during her years at Berry College. They were also fellow members of First Presbyterian Church in Rome, GA before serving in Kenya. Since then, Dave has been such a big help to us in the process of getting to Nairobi. Many BlueSky staff and missionary families here in Kenya, as well as numerous families in Rome, are both hurting and lifting the Preston’s up in prayer…Which has been such a reminder of the incredibly large impact this family has had on so many lives!

Thank you so much. Prayer is powerful and we serve a BIG God!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God,which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

May the Lord renew your strength and give you His wisdom for and in every situation!!

  3. Just spent time in prayer for all of these above requests. The Lord is faithful to grant the strength and grace you need…sometimes not until the very moment that you need it. Trusting that He will supply your every need as you faithfully serve Him for His glory!

  4. Dear Nate & Shanna: How prayed for you many, many times since your leaving, and when I talked to your Mom, Nate, I learned about all the things that have happened recently. When you called the other morning I was up North on Mackinaw Island and my phone said the call was restricted and wouldn’t let me answer. However, glad I got hooked up with the blog and can communicate that way. Have been praying that Satan would be defeated, and in spite of the difficulties, God would receive the glory and praise! “Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.” Have asked others to pray for you, and will continue to ask God’s protection, wisdom, and meet each and every need. Love and prayers, G. Reid
